The Aberdeen Militia

The next addition to my Covenanter force is the Aberdeen Militia from the Fecht of Aberdeen or the Battle of Justice Mills as you prefer (although I do intend to do another standard eventually to make the unit a little more flexible).

One again the figures are from Redoubt but the flag is from Wargame Designs.

    1. Thanks Phil. Let's hope they perform a little better than the Militia did at the real battle!

    1. Thanks. That's a very good question and I'm not sure I have an answer yet! I plan to get the additional ensign at the Broadside show next weekend (assuming Redoubt are there - I'd better check!) and then it will need painting so I have a little time to decide.

  5. Very smart indeed, Al. I am sure that the militia is going to be your Covenantors' secret weapon, suitably fortified pre-battle by porridge and non-frivolous root vegetables!

  6. Lovely figures. I am sorely tempted to start an ECW army using Warlord plastics.

  7. A good battle to do Al
From my time in Aberdeen I too have the Battle of Justice Mills on my wargaming list :)
I have wargamed it once already using the Canadian Wargame Group Rules "For God King and Country"
But it is on the "redo" list for me when I paint some 25/28mm of my own :)

    1. That's a bit far North for you isn't it? :)

As you may have seen from my post today I'm planning on trying FGK&C with these figures and Aberdeen is one of the scenarios in the book - so that and Tippermuir are likely to be easy ones to start with !

  8. Cool

I don't know if you can remember I was based up in Aberdeen for stint before London
I always chuckle to think that Justice Mills was a site of a cinema (Aberdeen has grown to swallow the external battlefield)

    1. No sorry I didn't - one of the penalties of getting old I suspect! I'm thinking of stopping that! :)

It is a shame when interesting sites get subsumed by development but you can't stop "progress" I suppose. It's a shame there isn't a decent film about Montrose that they could show there!
